Alternate Materials
Bagasse
Bagasse or sugarcane fibre is a plant fibre that can be moulded into different products. Bagasse products are sturdier compared to plastic and paper products and have become a preferred alternative to plastic takeout containers among eco-conscious brands.
Areca
Areca leaf tableware is a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to plastic, made from naturally fallen palm leaves without chemicals. With a unique, rustic appearance, Areca leaf plates and bowls add a natural touch to meals while reducing environmental impact.
Paper
Paper takeaway containers are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic, made from renewable and recyclable materials. They are sturdy, leak-resistant, and often lined with biodegradable coatings to handle hot and cold foods. Ideal for sustainable food packaging.
Alternate Materials (In Research)
Seaweed
Seaweed is nature’s super material, with a wide range of applications. It grows at an exponential rate and is being used as a raw material in making coatings, pellets and films. We are experimenting on making seaweed based coatings that can replace plastic and other harmful coatings on food containers.
PLA
PLA or poly-lactic acid is one of the most versatile bio-plastics. It is made of biodegradable materials and are naturally compostable. We are experimenting in our labs to understand a wide range of applications of this superior bioplastic which can change the industry outlook.
PBAT
PBAT or Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate is a biodegradable and compostable polymer known for its flexibility and durability. It is commonly blended with other biopolymers like PLA or starch to create eco-friendly plastic alternatives.
